Twitter

CPL 2.0 Twitter

I had an account with Twitter already so have used it for awhile. I like the fact you don't have to sign up for a Twitter account but can go into the site and search for something or someone you are interested in and find out what other people are saying about this person or company. Twitter is useful for checking on friends, businessess you frequent and celebrities you watch. It is a great site to get instant information and to keep others updated with your info.

LibraryThing

CPL.20 Library Thing

I did find the site very user-friendly. I searched for books by Elizabeth George and it came up with reviews of her books and later then I went back online, there were many members recommendations regarding other books similar in style of Ms George that I may look into. I would recommend this site for people who are looking for books written in a similar style to their favourite author. It was not difficult to navigate and would start using this site.

CPL 2.0

Online Productivity Tools.
I choose the Google Calendar and put a few days schedule into the calendar and printed it out. I like that it gives the Calgary forecast (helps with our schedule - how to dress and in planning an event outside, the forecast is a great tool. I also like the fact you can share your calendar with others if these people want to know about your schedule. This would be great for the holiday itinerary. I would consider using this calendar when I am very busy and want an hour to hour schedule that can be printed out and send to others. I have a good calendar system at home (writing in by hand) but then I have three calendars (kitchen calendar, computer room calendar and purse calendar)so maybe doing the calendar on line and printing out the week 3 times would be better. I will check it out.

I can see these free online tools eventually replacing expensive software like MS Office. These are good tools and "free" is always good.

CPL 2.0 Flickr & YouTube

I have watched YouTube videos many times and find that site very user friendly and usefull. (depending on what topic you are watching) Some are just plain silly.

I was very interested in Flickr, as I have never been to that site before. It seems to be a great place for photo management and sharing pictures. I like the feature of editing and organizing the pictures. I also like the make stuff. I would recommend this site for people who like to keep in touch with family and friends with their pictures.
COL2.0 RSS
I was albe to successfully set up my RRS feed by "subscribing to this feed using Blogliness" I signed up for CBC Calgary and mashable.com. Also signed up to Broadway.com and found it usefull with information gathering. I did not find the others I signed up for more convenient.

CPL.2.0 Google Universe

I tired something new:
Building Maker which is a 3D modeling tool for adding buildings to Google Earth.
All you have to do is select a city from around the world, make a building with the photos they provide, then save your building and it will be reviewed. You can see your 3D building in Google Earth. It is a fun program.

I have used over the year Google Translate which is really helpful.
When I wrote
"Use Google Translate program to translate text, webpages and documents in many different languages" and it translate to "Usa Google Translate per tradurre programma taxt, pagine web e documenti in molte lingue diverse"

It also lets you contribute a better translation if what they translate is not correct.

I used this when I wanted to impress my mother-in-law and have some messages translated into French or Italian. I think you have to watch as some translations are not correct, but if you need help with the translation, this is the program you should use.

I have also used Google Images and found it very helpful doing displays at the library.

Facebook:
It is useful or a time-waster? Well, for me both. I found it useful because I met up with old school friends of mine from Shawinigan, Quebec. I had lost touch with these gals a long time ago and it is so much fun to "talk" to them and get caught up and to be aware of their daily goings on at the moment. Like today, we talked about the good old days. But it can be a time-waster if friends ask you to play some of the many games on facebook and one thing leads you to another thing, and you can find you are on facebook for hours. It is fun but one has to limit the time spent on it.

Wikipedia

How easy or difficult was it to find articles that needed editing? Were the errors you found factual or grammar/spelling?
I found it difficult to find articles that needed editing, especially factual. The articles I went to seemed to have correct information. One had spelling mistakes. I found it was very easy to edit, but I was asked to create an account or editing this way will cause my IP address to be recorded publicly in the edit history. I did not want to do that. Very interesting site, I have used Wikipedia many times.
Delicious

What are advantages of storing, sharing, and tagging web content this way? What are the disadvantages?

The tag bundles are useful for reference questions, in my opinion, as there are lots of great information to be had. I find Delicious is not very easy to manoeuver though.
I don't think I will blog on a regular basis like I said before. I don't have much to say and who wants to read it any way. Other people's blogs are more interesting. So keep on blogging people, I am reading.

What I hope to learn from CPL 2.0 is to get more technology training and to encourage myself to learn and use new things that I was not aware of. I hope to continue to blog on a regular basis.
